Since I've not only resurrected this thing, but begun adding new people to my friends list, I thought it would be a good idea to update you with some relevant information about me.

My name is Tom. Tommx is a nickname I've had since about the age of 7. Any search on this nickname will either bring you to me or some dutch guy who has the domain tommx.com, does nothing with it, and refuses to give it up. Of course, I have the domain tommx.net and haven't really done anything significant with that since 2003, so...

I live in Silver Spring Maryland which is just outside of Washington DC. This is also where I was born. In fact, I live about a mile from the hospital in which I was born. I'm one of the few people in this area who actually grew up here.

By trade, I'm a web developer. I've worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for about 13 years, and largely have stayed here because I like the people and I like the commute. I live literally 2 1/2 miles from my office. This is convenient for me on days when I don't feel like driving and choose to walk to work.

When not working, I engage in a massive number of hobbies and interests that I struggle to make time for. Chief among them has been acting, though I do not consider myself a professional by any means. I am an amateur in the most accurate sense of the word. I do it because I love it. I also sing, but don't have as many opportunities to engage in that as I do acting. I'm working on that one.

I also am active in my local burner scene. This relates to http://burningman.org/, though I have not actually been to Burning Man myself. The event that I go to most often is Playa Del Fuego. There are other smaller "baby burns" that I attend when I have the time, but that's the big one. I tend to try to hit that one at least once a year on average.

I am highly opinionated, highly liberal, and care deeply about social issues. As you can guess, I'm not exactly thrilled about the incoming presidential administration, if you can even call it that, but I'll continue to do what I can for as long as I can to make the world around me a better place.

I'm not young, but people tell me that I look and act like I am. This is amusing since when I was young, people frequently thought I was older. I guess it's not the worst problem to have.

That's about all I have time for right now, and I admit that it isn't much, but hopefully it's enough to grab your interest. Suffice to say, I hope we can have some meaningful interactions here.

You're welcome. It's been a long time since I added anyone new on LJ, so I figured some kind of expository post would be in order. I tend to hate talking about myself, but like you, I'm pretty transparent, sometimes more so than people would like. Welcome! Look forward to interacting.

Hi Tom, I'm Erika (kukla_red). Nice to meet you. I guess I should do an intro entry too, so at least people will know what they've gotten themselves into. I will have to read up on the burner thing. I don't know anything about it.

What she said. There's a lot of good that can be found in burning man and a lot that can be not good. I'll do a post later on what it means to me.

Nice to meet you. As a side note, I love NOAA's instagram account. (pretty much their presence cheers me up.)

Awesome, thanks for the add! This bio idea is a good one, I should probably do this too! \m/

I figure I'll have several such posts coming up. Glad to know you.

Hey Tom! Thanks for the add! Great intro!

I'm Karen.
I live in LA and manage a teleprompting company.
I mostly write about my boring life or my fascination with Sasquatch, the Mandela Effect, talking to the dead and extraterrestrial life. I've backed off a little on those subjects, but letting loose in 2017.

I love my bicycle. Everyone knows about the Townie.
I envy your work commute. Mine's 28 miles one way through two valleys. Couldn't do it on my bike until I left at 3 am. I'll pass.

Look forward to reading more about you! Thanks again!

Hi Tom!

I was born in DC but was raised in Silver Spring! I grew up in the Kemp Mill and Glenmont area and live now in Rockville. I assume based on your entry you live near Holy Cross? I wish I had as nice as a commute as yours - luckily the ICC saves me a lot of time driving!

Nice to meet you :)

Correct. I live right outside the beltway in South Four Corners, and work in downtown Silver Spring. In favorable weather, I walk/jog to work. Howdy.

Hi, there! Adding you via the FB page. I used to live in Silver Spring, right there in that high rise at the Metro stop. I liked it very much, and still miss that diner, oh, what was it called? The Parkway on Grubb Rd.

Dec. 19th, 2016 09:19 pm (UTC)
The Parkway, yes. I work more or less right down the street from there, which means you used to live right next to where I work. Howdy old neighbor.

I relate to having more hobbies and interests that you can easily make time for. Even when I have time off work, I never seem to get to everything!

Good to meet you and I hope we can form a good connection here.

A pleasure to meet you as well. I have had good luck in the past connecting with new people who are worth knowing. You definitely seem to be one of them.

Hello, new friend. Of course, you would be in the burner scene. Our world is big enough to get lost in, but too small for any of us to hide.

How wonderful to meet you as well new friend. Burners don't seem to be quite as plentiful here on LJ for some reason. (Maybe because they're all bookfacing)

At any rate, I look forward to our future interactions.

Something about your intro post in the revival comm intrigued me (but then life happened and I can't remember what it was). Mind if I add you? Would love to learn more about NOAA and the burner scene...

Please do. I shall do the same.

Hi, we have some common friends here on LJ, and I really liked the questions you asked in one of my friends' journal. It's rare that those 3 question memes ask anything worthwhile. I added you, I hope that's okay. Been on LJ for a long time, and am part of the whole revival community on fb, so I hope it blows life in these parts.

I found your bio intriguing, and although it's from some time ago, your post about your dog deeply touching. Having lost a variety of friends and family members over the year to expected and unexpected occurrences, young and old, there isn't anything like the loss of a pet. I think you captured the feelings and struggle quite well, and I empathize with such a loss.
