Definition of a Geek

  • Oct. 1st, 2008 at 12:40 PM
ME
Am I a total geek because I'm thinking of going to a Black Tie optional gala commemorating the 50th anniversary of the DC Association for Computing Machinery? Is that made worse by the fact that I'm wanting to go because Bjarne Stroustrup will be delivering a talk about the evolution of the language?

Yeah, I thought so.

(edited...I misread it, and should have known better. C++ isn't that old for the simple reason that Stroustrup isn't in his late 80s. Duh)

Yep, geek. Totally.

So?

(Actually, I'm kinda embarrassed that I have no interest in going because I don't know C++ or have an interest in the person giving the talk... so if I went I'd be surrounded by people I know and totally have nothing to say.)

Oh, are you going to that? My friends Cora and Winter are going to that, too. It does sound like quite the to-do.

I'm thinking about it. In these lean economic times, I need to decide if I want to shell out the $40 cover charge. However, it's right in my 'hood, so...

Haha! Yeah, I seriously thought about going, but I couldn't quite justify the ticket price for the two of us even before it went up today.
