Living with Geeks inteview

ME
One of the highlights of this weekend (and we had several) was being interviewed by Jill Foster for her documentary Living with Geeks. [info]lkell met Jill at a networking event some time ago, and learned about the project and suggested we would be happy to be interviewed. I was a little nervous prior to the interview because I traditionally hate seeing myself on video. It's a weird sort of narcississm I have, but I generally see all of my physical and behavioral faults grossly accentuated whenever I see video footage of myself. It's silly but there it is.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun because we were actually pretty relaxed. Jill is very good at putting people at ease, and we also had great fun introducing the dogs. My one regret is that I did not remember to show off my most prized geekish possession, something I've had for 21 years, yes, you guessed it, my very own hand knitted Dr. Who scarf. 12 feet long, and to this day it is still the warmest garment I have. My mother knitted it for me either in my last year of High School or my first year of college. On the rare occasions I do wear it (most of the time it's simply not all that cold in DC) I get envious comments from people about it.

Another thing that was wonderful about this weekend was spending time with Myrna ([info]lkell's mother), her partner Dottie, and their new dog Beau. He is a labradoodle (or as I prefer to call him, a Poobrador) puppy about 5 months old. I feel quite a fool for not having taken a single picture of the little guy, but we will have other opportunities. His name is short for Beau Brummell, but I still like to think of his name as being short for Bonaparte, though honestly, the first name suits him better. He is no Napoleon. He's far too submissive, and has said nothing about invading Russia yet. (whereas Tallulah talks of nothing else)

Rome was a delight last night, and I'm REALLY looking forward to more confrontations between Marc Antony and Octavian. Knowing the outcome of this whole situation, I am positively giddy at the prospect of seeing how the drama will play out when history plays itself out. I especially liked Cleopatra appearing in less anachornistic dress in this episode. I loved her catching the eye of Titus Pullo as he had one of the best lines of the series about having been ordered to have sex with her. "I was just obeying orders. Bloody good orders too!"

My mother gave us a Tivo for Christmas for the downstairs TV which arrived last week. It is a much better model than the other one as it is a dual tuner. Basically we can watch two shows at the same time, and with the skipping of commercials, well...we may never have to leave the house again. Moreover, we can now watch Law and Order AND Law and Order Criminal Intent at the same time. Considering we already watch 54 hours of Law and Order a week, this is a positive boon.

Actually we got a Nordic Trac elliptical to take the place of our YMCA membership, so we can now work out while we rot our brains on Tivo.

Oh, and it snowed yesterday. Guess I'm not riding for a while. :-/

Season one was fantastic. It helps to know a little about Roman history relative to the rise of the Empire from the ashes of the republic. There are artistic liberties taken of course, but they appear to be deliberate and carefully chosen. The actor who playes Gaius Julius Ceasar is phenomenal, and I actually found myself mourning his passing during the inevitable assassination scene.

If you get HBO On Demand, the entire season is currently available there.

I love that documentary. I would totally be the geek. I didn't realize until recently (i.e. moved out of NoVa) how un-geeky the rest of the world is. I don't understand why Greg would not want a wireless router in his home and instead would prefer to truck it up to Panera and carry around an outdated cell phone. He can't even send/receive text messages. And my friend Julie's computer has been broken for months so she checks her email one time a week. I check mine like once a quarter hour. HELLO!!!
